Answer Electronic ignition easy upgrade
If you just bought a 1971 240z car and you wanted to upgrade the engine and at the same time the electrical, you should start with the distributor. the original distributor uses the standard contact points. Now you can upgrade this rather easy by having them replace with a "petronix" electronic set of points. They usually run approximatly $100 dollars. But you will not have to replace a set of burn out points any more. also the Electronic set will be very reliable. You will also be able to do this in just under 1-2 hours with very simple tools.
There are other ways of switching to electronic ignition. but it requires finding a later model z-car and also the right module to go with it. more than lightly there will not be much of a savings (cost may be more). To find out more about 240-z cars look up www.zcar.com
