Why would the digital odometer and RPM meter work intermittently in a 1997 Sebring JX Convertible?

[Edit]

Answer

The problem is in the instrument cluster. It needs ot be checked out.

This is a very common problem with these cars as they age. I have seen a number of them where the odometer was blank and/or working intermittently together with the tach. The only reliable solution is to get a new one from a dealer.
