Why should you wear a helmet while riding a motorcycle? |
[Edit] |
If your state does not have a mandatory motorcycle helmet law, the choice is yours to make. Some people feel safer wearing a helmet, some do not.
Additional comment:
I personally wear a helmet and have always wore a helmet since I started riding a bike when I was 16 years old and I'm now 38 years old... I have never had the occasion to needed a helmet since I have never been in an accident that was more then a bump... Yet, even so I still feel that helmets are the minimum requirement... since I can't think of anything worst then being brain dead... or a vegetable waiting to die.
In addition there are many different styles of helmets and many different looks.. that are comfortable to wear..
Additional comment
I personally believe that wearing a helmet is dangerous and may cause permanent neck injury. At one time I thought helmets were a safety device, until I had my first two accidents. The first one was due to not being able to hear the car next to me, the second was due to the decreased peripheral vision of a full-face helmet. I stopped wearing a helmet after that and have not had an accident for 25 years now. I have also known people who survived a motorcycle accident without a helmet, and if they had worn a helmet they would have died (according to a sworn statement from the head trauma surgeon).
