Why should you believe in God?

[Edit]

That is your choice as an individual. There is no objective proof that God exists, but many do choose to believe, either because of family tradition, peer pressure or because they really do see evidence of God in nature.

In summary, you should believe in God if you feel that this belief is right for you.

_______

You should believe in God for a number of reasons.

Firstly, the fact that you have asked this question indicates the interest which every individual has in this question, regardless of how they resolve it. From where does this question come? The Bible tells us 'He has set the world in their hearts.' This can also be translated 'He has set eternity in their hearts.' Man being made in God's image has a natural longing after His maker. There is no valid explanation in naturalistic explanations of origins for this. A God who does not exist cannot place a longing or a quest for Himself in our minds and hearts. Every culture that has ever existed has this, although of course they resolve it in different ways.

Secondly, since there is this longing after God humans have no rest until they find their true rest in Him, though they do indeed search for substitutes.

Thirdly, He has revealed Himself in many and various ways, the last and greatest being in Jesus Christ who showed us God's great love by dieing for us on the cross of calvary.

Fourthly, God has invited us to seek Him and has promised to bless that search. Many who do not find Him or who say they cannot also make it plain they do not want to be subject to Him, since they realize that they must be subject to the Lord of all the earth.

Fifthly, as the creator, He knows how people are meant to function. Knowing God and His word enables one to know one's true identity as one of His own and to fulfill the purpose He has for each one of us.

Sixthly, knowing God, the true and living God, incarnated in Jesus Christ, brings peace beyond understanding.

Seventhly, knowing the true and living God will put one in touch with true and eternal wisdom. It will help one be thinking in a way which is 'in tune' with how one is designed by the God who is the maker of all.

Eighthly, it will enable you to see things all around you which have been there all along, the clear evidence of the maker in the things which He has made.

Ninthly, it is not an admission of weakness or intellectual idiocy to believe in God either. It is just an admission of reality.

_____

Until we all agree that god is a fact, then, I see no rational reason why I should.

______

People believe in God because it gives them hope in times of hopelessness. Many people believe in God for the same reasons that they believe in Santa Claus. A belief in God is supposed to make you a better human. A belief in God or a fear of God can also make you a puppet in the hands of shrewd individuals who wish to exploit and control you.

A belief in God can also make you an instrument of piety, equity, righteousness, compassion and spirituality.
