Why might a person abuse their animals?

[Edit]

Answer

A person with an anger management issue might abuse their animals to take out some of their frustrations. While this might help to relieve some of the tensions and anger it still a very inhumane thing to do to a defenseless animal and this person should seek medical help immediately.

I also have had problems with dog abuse. My 3 year old, whom I knew had problems with other dogs is very impossible on the leash as she is a pit bull/terrier mix, which essentially puts her in the bully breed category. Nonetheless she's very nice, and good with people, but freaks out with other dogs. I tend to take my anger out on her, not on a daily basis, but in the last month it's happened 3 times. I've hit her and vented my anger inappropriately, not fully understanding why either. Each time I've vowed, "to never do it again" yet I've done it again. This time I'm going to find out why I do it, when, and work on my obvious anger problem. If anyone has suggestions, let me know. Thank you. Other than that she's taken care of, but I guess I don't really take care of her entirely.

Answer

It could be anger or it could be they don't like the animal. No one is really sure of why these people do this. Its just inhumane to do something like that and to not have sympathy for the poor defenseless animals.

Answer

this will more often than not be a problem with the person and nothing to do with the animal, its psychological, anger is a very good example as the posters above have said, past experiences with people can make them resentful and need to externalize this and a smaller creature who is unable to defend itself fully is a way to do so,

some people even see the animal as a possession and a thing rather than a living being that can feel and treat it accordingly ie like piece of furniture, and then there is a common one ignorance,

some people just dont seem to know that the animal needs the same love, care, attention, food and water etc that all humans and other animals need to live healthily and happily and that they infact do feel emotions the same as we do.

Answer

I agree with the people above. People do take their anger out on animals. People also buy animals because they are cute and not take care of them afterward. That would aslo be abuse.
