The tooth no longer has a root. It has been dissolved by the permanent tooth which will replace it. The primary (milk, baby) tooth is only being held in place by the soft tissue (gum) attachment.
Have the child place gentle finger pressure on the tooth in one direction and count slowly to ten. Then have them place gentle finger pressure in the opposite direction and again slowly count to ten. Repeat this process several times and soon the tooth will fall out.
Have the child gently bite down on a folded damp piece of gauze over the lost tooth site for about 15-20 minutes to minimize the bleeding.
