Why is football called 'soccer' in the US? |

Actually the British, who invented soccer, created the name association football to refer to soccer in order to distinguish it from rugby football. Soccer became a shortened reference to the word asSOCiation football. Therefore, soccer is often used to refer to association football in countries where another form of football exist.

Football is the official name for football. There is one code of football and 7 codes of handball.
