Why don't more people learn a foreign language?

[Edit]

Answer

The reason more people don't learn a foreign language is because it's hard to learn, or they just don't feel they need another language. Sometimes it is because they don't have the resources to actually learn a new language. Motivation - the will to learn (or lack of it) - is of crucial importance. In many parts of the world people are very keen to learn foreign languages. In many of the English-speaking countries foreign languages seem remote and irrelevant. Being a native speaker of English - with its international 'top dog' status - has advantages but it can be very isolating.
