Why does Santa traditionally have sherry and a mince pie in England and milk and cookies in America?

[Edit]

Answer

Well, he can't have cookies and milk everywhere!Don't you get sick of the same food, over and over?

Answer

Because different cultures have different traditions.

In this particular case, I suspect it has something to do with a distaste, in America, for depicting a child's character like Santa Claus drinking alcohol. We tend to be a lot more Puritanical about that sort of thing, whereas in England it's no big deal. As for mince pie ... well, I'd prefer a cookie to a mince pie any day!
