Why do the Italians wear blue football jerseys?

[Edit]

Answer

Sky blue was the color of the Royal House of the Kingdom of Italy. In its first match, the Italian national team wore white shirts with shorts from the club of each player; the sky blue shirts were introduced in the following match.

Azzurro (singular of azzurri) was the royal family (Savoia) color. It wasn't changed when the Italian Republic was born in 1946, because for too many years "azzurri" identified Italian national teams.
