Why do so many Asian guys smoke?

I have never really heard that alot of Asian guys smoke, and I have friends that are Asian. If you or anyone you know smokes, please keep in mind that smoking is not good for your health. If you don't smoke, don't start because it is a bad habit to break.

I couldn't agree more! I've lived overseas and the Cig. Ads. were everywhere and they are pushed especially hard to the main bread winner of the tradional family and that is the young to middle aged men. There were no health warnings of any kind, at least not when I was there. Anyone could buy cigs. there was no age requirments and very young kids could be seen smoking out on the streets. I thought at the time, that alot of the ads. had the hint of selling the American way of being cool. Now, that was just an underlying feeling I had, but it stuck with me. But once they started smoking they were faced with the same issues that everyone is. The impossibility of quitting without help of some kind. Do Not Start. It is the hardest thing in the world to stop, and even eight years later and I still wake up in a panic from dreaming about smoking a cig! I still have times when I want one, and that isn't cool! You want to own your own life!

Many smokers in Asia are smoking because of influence from the media (a cine star/ hero of a sensational movie smoking on the screen) which is the kickstarter of the habit among other reasons such as experimentation, peer influence, overcoming boredom, etc. I noticed many of my friends working in the IT sector smoke to deal with the stress at their workplace!
