Reasons Leaves Change Colors
Leaves are the food factories of plants. During the spring and summer, they are actively making food and are filled with chlorophyll, which gives the leaves their green color. As summer ends and the days get shorter and cooler, food production stops and the leaves stop producing food. The chlorophyll disappears and they begin to change into the yellows, oranges, and reds that we see in Autumn.
