Why do cops leave their lights on when pulling people over? |

So that people driving past can easily see that there is a car parked on the side of the road and hopfully not crash into it.
To keep other vehicles away and protect themselves and the driver they pulled over. Most state laws say that you have to slow down or pull into a lane further away from an emergency vehicle on the side of the road.
