Why are Italian shoes so expensive?

[Edit]

Italian Shoes

When you're buying Italian shoes, you're often paying for quality (the craftsmanship and materials of Italian shoes are superb) but you're also paying for prestige and the name of the brand. However, that doesn't mean that Italian shoes are always a good buy. As good as Italian shoes may often look, often times Italian shoes are no more comfortable than the shoes made in the good old U.S.A. In fact, Italian shoes can be less comfortable depending on the shape and width of your foot and they are often much, much more expensive.

When shopping for shoes, it's important that you don't buy a shoe just because of where it's made or the name of the brand. Instead buy a shoe based on how it fits and how comfortable it is. When wearing a shoe, the Italian tag isn't going to do your feet any good.

Because somebody will pay that price:

Long time ago, the best leathers factories were in Italy, which is why the reputation still carries on (it's like perfumes and France, Russia and vodka). Today, technology has come a long way, but yes Italy still does produce very high quality leathers. Honestly, the reason why Italian leather is so expensive, is because brands exploit the phrase "Made in Italy," not because the Italians know something about crafting shoes, tanning leather, etc. that other people don't know today (well they may, I don't know). It's an image thing. Just because the shoes cost $300 doesn't mean it's all that it's cracked out to be (it better wash my dishes, and iron and fold my clothes if I'm gonna pay $300 for it, shoes touch the ground for goodness sake!). A pair of extremely similar styled shoes worth $200 less (or even more if you buy 'em on sale :)) can boast of quality material and craftsmanship. Brand charge ridiculous prices because they know some gullible stupid person is dumb enough to pay that price. Like the previous entry, go by the individual craftsmanship rather than depend on where the product was made; although I would not completely disregard where the product was made because it can shed some light on the quality. you know, reputations are built somehow.

Just to say: Italian shoes are not so expensive! Okay, 400 dollars worth an Italian shoe is not expensive, now, 1G is expensive.

They are "highly-priced" because the quality of the shoes are considered the best. Also, as said above, they were considered the best leather. And when it says "Made in Italy" check it; to see if it is worth it, like Versace and Gucci, their shoes are worth it. But maybe some pair that you find for like 80 bux! don't buy it! and also custom made shoes are also most times from Italy. Like ones for a wedding.
