First Ph.D in Management-Mumbai Universi
Viswanatha Sankara Rama Subramaniam or Dr.VSR.Subramaniam (http://www.drvsrs.com) was the first Ph.D degree holder in management, from the Mumbai university (after the inception of this subject, when it was the University of Bomabay) in the year 1975. He was a research scholar in Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai, under the guidance of Dr.PK.Ghosh (who later became the Director of the institute). His thesis was “Productivity implications of Employee performance appraisal system” (http://www.drvsrs.com/nobel.htm). Besides the University of Bombay, the thesis was also evaluated by the “Manchester Business School, UK". He was the “Data processing expert” of the CFTC, Commonwealth, London, UK, and “Consultant adviser” to the Caribbean Development Bank, Barbados (A World bank/UNDP set up for Regional development). Author/contributor of research papers to “Ideas/Research papers in Economics”
