Where is the serial number on an Ithaca M49 located?

[Edit]

Answer

For whatever help this is on 20 Aug 05, I am holding an Ithaca M49 which shows that the serial number is 9 digits long and stamped into the left front side, parallel to the barrel, and forward of the trigger in the action case.

I hope this helps, Brad

Answer

This is 28 Aug 05, my Ithaca M-49 has a 6 digit serial number, and is also stamped on the left front side, parallel to the barrel, and forward of the trigger. Dan

Answer

The earliest (around 1962) models of the M49 Saddlegun didn't have serial numbers. The serial numbers were added to the lower left of the receiver in the later 1960s as required by the gun act of 1968. I don't recall the exact dates.
