It is not legal to buy it in the US, but you can buy it elsewhere and bring it back - it is legal in many foreign countries. A friend of mine bought some in St. Maartin

You can also buy absinthe online from other countries and ship it to the US. for instance check out http://www.absintheshop.info

As far as I know, it has been legalized in US in 2008, but only a version with no more than 10mg/l (=almost none) thujone. You still need to purchase real strong absinthes on the internet. AFAIK the czech absinthes are the ones with highest psychedelic effects .. for instance http://www.buy-czech-absinthe.com

Latest research is clear enough, high level of thujone has nothing to do with good absinthe. The only good absinthe is at least distilled one and contain anise. I would recommend http://www.goodmood.cz
