When was the computer invented?

[Edit]

Answer

At 27 tonnes and the size of an entire room, the world's first computer is just as elaborate as its name suggests ? ENIAC or Electronic Numerator Integrator Analyser and Computer. True to form, ENIAC also makes big noises, cracking and buzzing while performing an equation of 5,000 additions. Before the invention of ENIAC, it took a room full of people to calculate a similar equation. Basic answer 1945!

Answer

Nobody really knows when the first computer was invented. It has many inventors that have contributed to the history of computers.

There are several people whose works are noteworthy in this regard.

Many consider Englishman Charles Babbage's Analytical Engine back in 1837 to be the first computer.

I recommend "Why Was the Computer Invented When It Was" by Tom Korner for a good overview on how and when the first computers were developed.

The first electronic programmable computer is widely held to be Colossus, developed in 1942-43 in Station X, Bletchly Park, England. It was used to crack the Enigma codes which were encrypted orders relayed by the Germans in WWII.

Answer

technicaly speaking the first computer was made in the c.3rd centuary A.D. it was called the abacus is consisted of of moveable counters to speed up computations it is not knowen as to whom made the abacus but just remember that computers are counting machines and that some of the first computers were made for calculation and there for they are calculators. thanks for listening to me bable on.:-}

Answer

It was made in 1936 and was called the Z1 Computer

Answer

Mapier(the inventor of longarithms)

Charles Babbage(English Mathematican)

Ada Byron(daughter of Lord Byron, the famous poet.)

Babbage is often thought of as being the father of computer because of his inventions.

Ada is usually considered to be the first computer programmer because of her analyses and explanation of Babbage's work.

The first computer was invented by a british scientist Charles P.Babbage in 1822 but completed in 1871 by Helmet P.Babbage (the son of Charles P.Babbage).

Answer

The Difference Engine: The first of these devices was conceived in 1786 by J. H. Mueller. It was never built.

Difference engines were forgotten and then rediscovered in 1822 by Charles Babbage. This machine used the decimal numbers system and was powered by cranking a handle. The British government first financed the project but then later cut off support. Babbage went on to design his much more general analytical engine but later returned and produced an improved design (his "Difference Engine No. 2") between 1847 and 1849.

Answer

I researched, and found out the real inventor of the very first computer. Her (yes it's a her) name was MARINA NEUMANN. Although she was not recognized for her invention she was the one that invented it. The one that was recognized for her work was her father VON NEUMANN. The only reason she did not get recognized for her work was because she was a girl. The year was 1830.

Answer

You might say it was in 3000 B.C. and was called the abacus.

You could start with Charles Babbage's Difference engine or the ENIAC I Computer created by J Presper Eckert and John Mauchly.

However, ENIAC was not the first of it's kind. The UK Ministry of Defence had one running during World War 2.

Answer

well the first one was actually made by charles babbage it was called the analytical engine. there was also one called the difference engine which was basicaly a calculator. after he died, noone continued the production of these, and they werent finished yet.

ada lovelace, daughter of the famous poet lord byron, got ill and was bedridden as a teenager. instead of just laying aroung her mother hired tutors to teach her. ada became a knowledgable teenager and eventually created the first computer program, which was required to make the analytical engine work. after marrying william king she would gain the title "Countess of Lovelace". she died in 1852 at the age of 37(or 36,its not too clear although more sources tell you that she was 37when she died) ada now is also known as the "counting Countess"

during WWII Konrad Zuse invented the Z1. it was followed y the Z2 and Z3 for germany. the allied forces created the Collossus. alan turing invented it. the colossus was used to decipher the secret codes of the germans. the Z1 Z2 and Z3 were used to produce the secret codes. however these wartime inventions didn't help much because the Z1 Z2 and Z3 belonged to losers and the colossus belonged to the winners, and both wanted to keep their inventions a secret, so they really didn't help to the making of a computer everyday people could use.

Answer

The very first computer was the Abacus, invented in 3,000 B.C. For a history of the modern computer, use Google Search and type in Computer History.

Answer

If the question is referring to the first ELECTRONIC computer - one of the answers above was correct. Colossus was the first electronic computer developed by the British to crack the LORENZ codes used by the German high command. The existence of Colossus remained a secret long after WWII. Until recently ENIAC was thought to be the first, but the secrecy of Colossus was finally lifted and we find it (and 9 others) were first operational in Jan 1944 while various portions of ENIAC were made operational in the period of June 1944 through October 1945.

Answer: First computer created

Technically speaking, the abacus was the "first" computer ever made! However, I am certain that you are more likely refering to the first "modern" day computer.

That being the case, I would venture to say that it was Konrad Zuse who created the first real functioning, binary computer (actually, it was a very large calculator--but a computer nontheless!). His creation was called the Z1.

(1) In 1936, Zuse made a mechanical calculator called the Z1, the first binary computer. Zuse used it to explore several groundbreaking technologies in calculator development: floating-point arithmetic, high-capacity memory and modules or relays operating on the yes/no principle. Zuse's ideas, not fully implemented in the Z1, succeeded more with each Z prototype.

In 1939, Zuse completed the Z2, the first fully functioning electro-mechanical computer.

The answer to this question depends of your definition of a computer.

The first known counting devices or tools were Tally Sticks from about 35,000 BC. The Abacus was then invented by the Babylonians in 2400 BC.

In 1837, Charles Babbage, a British professor of mathematics described his idea for the Analytical Engine, the first stored-program mechanical computer. The Analytical Engine was designed to be powered by a steam engine and was to use Punched Cards, which was used to program mechanical looms at the time.

What made the Analytical Engine unique was that it was designed to be programmed. It was because of this and the fact that it would be more than 100 years that any similar devices would be constructed, Charles Babbage, would be considered by many as the "father of computing". Because of legal, financial, and political obstacles, the Analytical Machine would never be completed. Charles Babbage was also difficult to work with and alienated the supporters of his work.

In 1939, John V. Atanasoff and Clifford Berry developed the Atanasoff-Berry Computer (ABC) at Iowa State University, which was regarded as the first electronic digital computer. The ABC was built by hand and the design used over 300 Vacuum Tubes and had capacitors fixed in a mechanically rotating drum for memory.

The ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer), constructed in the US in 1943, is widely regarded as the first functionally useful electronic general-purpose computer. Influenced by the ABC, it was a turning point in the history of computing and was used to perform ballistics trajectory calculations and used 160 kW of power. World War II is known to be the driving force of computing hardware development and one of such use of computers was in communications encryption and decryption.

The UNIVAC I (Universal Automatic Computer) was the first commercially available, "mass produced" electronic computer manufactured by Remington Rand in the USA and was delivered to the US Census Bureau in June 1951. It used 5,200 vacuum tubes and consumed 125 kW of power. 46 machines were sold at more than $1 million each.

The microprocessor eventually led to the development of the microcomputer, small, low-cost computers that individuals and small businesses could afford. By the 1990s, the microcomputer or Personal Computer (PC) became a common household appliance, and became even more widespread with the advent of the Internet.

I was wondering when because my math teacher was having problems on her computer and another teacher came in and helped her then when she was leaving my math teacher was like "dont worry i was teaching long before computers were invented"
