What is the purpose of vitamins for plants?

[Edit]
Do you mean vitamins as in B12, C, D? If so, nothing. It is bogus.

Plants require macro - and micro - nutrients from the soil in certain minimum concentrations depending on the plant and the soil type. Essential nutrients are things like nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) and micronutrients like zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), calcium (Ca) and others. These are available to the plant roots through the soil solution that contains them form natural or fertilizer sources. There have been claims by some that actual vitamins increase plant growth but research has shown this to be false and very expensive.
