What is the purpose of minoring in a subject in addition to your major in college? |

The short answer is, so you can get a degree!
The longer answer is that it allows you to develop two interests or fields of specialty. For example, I have a psychology major and a writing minor. The psychology really helps me with writing bio articles and non-fiction.
College is not just job training. One purpose is to increase general knowledge, so you'll be able to look at things from many different perspectives. Many, many people end up in their minor field, or in an industry unrelated to either their major or minor. But, the knowledge and critical thinking skills they gained in college contribute to their success.
Answer
To make yourself more marketable after college. For example, if you majored in business marketing - ok. If you minored in music, or art you would show a skill set that would also be useful (making gingles/commercials) that others may not have.
