UOP is a FOR PROFIT school. Even some of the most expensive and prestigious schools in the country are "Not for profit" in their distinction, like Harvard, Yale, and Princeton. You must think long and hard about the spirit of what UOP is trying to do before you decide to go there. Remember, they openly state that their goal, first and foremost, is to make a monetary profit for their shareholder's, while even at the most expensive Ivy League school, their first priority is to provide outstanding education for their students, even above bringing in dollars. The massive amounts of money that Harvard brings in are distributed and given back to the students and public through educational and extracurricular offerings, top notch faculty (who are of course paid more) and hospitals and other community facilities.

For profit education is still trying to find its place in the world, and the jury still seems to be out. I'm not saying that you wouldn't get a good education, there, but I am saying that if you do a little research, you will find many not-for-profit schools that offer the same convenience, so you want to think about the fact that the school you are attending is using your hard earned money to make a profit.

I would have to agree with the above. It's good solid information! However, on behalf of the University of Phoenix (UOP)I have to say because they are for profit, they must think excellence in education. They cannot survive if this is not their vision and mission. Their student service area is excellent, their counselling staff are very well informed, the University's energy is up, and they just do an outstanding job in regards to their acquisition of new students and continued base management procedures. Their faculty (on-line) are individuals who have much experience within the disciple they are teaching, which adds the dos and don'ts of real life applications students need to be aware of. Most of them, - I believe - have their doctorates. UOP is fully accredited by the North Central Association, so it is a bona fide and qualified University. Lastly, as far as the on-line degrees, students are getting feedback from other students nation wide with many taking courses from outside the USA. It just adds to the flavour of the subject matter, with opinions coming from a cross-cultural perspective. I am not attempting to sound like a sales person for UOP, but I am merely giving credit where credit is due. I know of many who have taken their graduate degrees through UOP. They indicate the education was excellent, but also a lot of hard work!

STRONG CAUTION: Please be aware that many employers have stopped paying tuition reimbursements for UofP class work. Axia college was set up to hide money.

I personally, had a very bad experience with them. If you are considering on-line education, there are plenty of other programs out there to get your education through. Please check other websites before making such a huge financial investment into your future. I'm now being held financially responsible for two classes that I did not even take. The UofP is for profit and they allow anyone to enter the classes that pay for them. It is very frustrating to people who are trying to get a true education to find that the Uof P "degree" really isn't recognized by any employers except the ones that happen to go there themselves. Many corporations have found that U of P graduates really don' t have the skills needed to functions in the positions they were hired for.

- I am a UOP Graduate and I have opposite oppinion from you. My degree is very well recognized by almost every company. As a matter of fact I was promoted because of my degree. At the end of the day it is not where you graduated from is what you can do and how well you can perform. Of course your ratings are much higher if you have a degree from an Ivy League School but the rest is all about you and what you can do for the company you work for. Another thing about UOP and employers is that employers like to see their employee getting better education because it rises the company status. Do you actually think that you will get fired if you receive a degree from UOP? No you won't. My brother is also a UOP Graduate and it was his company's idea to send him there. They payed for his entire education. I am not going to name the company but lets just say is a very well known one. If UOP is that bad why would a copmany with such a high reputation send and pay for their employees to go to UOP?
