Answer
Unfortunately/fortunately, he does not have to agree. You can file for divorce on your own. However, planning for the eventuality that he will not be happy would be wise.

Here are more opinions and answers from other FAQ Farmers:
- After 15 years together, my husband walked out on me and our 5 year old without looking back. He refused any help of any kind, I begged, pleaded, cried, improved myself (as if I needed it) you name it. It's like we never existed. Well, from the information I have gotten off Sam's web site that was the worse thing I could have done. I figured out why he wasn't disturbed about the break up and why he had absolutly NO compassion for our little girl. He had his parents approval and he got a girlfriend. He continued a relationship with me while having one with this other woman behind my back. He used my therapist to tell me this information because he didn't have the balls to tell me himself. What does this have to do with a divorce? Once he finds someone else that "adores" him he will drop you like a hot potato. My husband can't wait to get a divorce. I am one of the things standing in the way of him and the new love of his life. Hang tight and avoid contact as much as possible.
