What is the best resource for learning Spanish independently? |
[Edit] |
Answer
I get asked this question all the time! There is a wealth of materials being sold out there, but not many of them will give you the whole picture nor get you where you want to go. I suggest ordering from a publisher materials similar to what students and teachers use in their classes (ie. textbook, listening tapes, and interactive Cd-Rom). You could also go to a college bookstore to buy them off the shelf. Next, however, comes the most important piece of the puzzle: practice. If you don't get any practice with other speakers of Spanish (whether native or not) then you will never properly learn the language. If you can, try finding a place in your area to volunteer or work with Spanish speakers. If that's not a possibility, then surf the web for sites that are in Spanish and do your best to participate wherever you can! And read, read, read.
