Well athsma really doesnt have anything to do with dog breeds but if its a kid in an apartment a Pembroke Welsh Corgi would be a really good dog. They are EXTREMELY smart and quite small. Not Chihuahua size, but not Pitbull either.... its perfect. I have Two Pembroke Corgis and a cat and they all get along really well together, but if your getting more than one, be sure to get them at the same time because they tend to be bossy when a new "creature" enters the family. I say because of the kid the dog will have plenty to do. It may want to go outside occasionally, but what dog doesn't!

Another thing i want to say is that if you really want to get a dog, get one, but sometimes its not fair to the dog because he cant go outside much. So instead of a dog, i would recomend a CAT! I live in a house with my animals so they have more than enough things to play with, but in an apartment it is sort of tight, so a cat would probably better. But if you must, get the corgi!!!(They are ADORABLE!!!)

i dont think a pitbull would be a good chose because i got bit by one

Boston Terriers Poodles and Bichon Frize'. Both are small dogs (don't get the Standard Poodle) and they don't shed. However, it's not the dog fur, but the dog dander that bothers people with allergies or asthma. Ask your doctor before you buy one of these 3dogs. It would be heart-breaking to buy a dog for your child and then have to either sell the dog or give it away to another family.

This is my own opinion and not a doctors opinion, but I feel if a parent with a child with mild asthma gets a dog that doesn't lose hair that dog is a calming effect on the child should they have an asthma attack. Again, please check this out with an Asthma specialist.

Good luck Marcy

**Every Breed of dog sheds to some degree, and can illicit allergic response in humans. The following is a list of the most hypo-allergenic and low-shed breeds out there. Depending on your childs condition, even these breeds may not work out...but I would only stick to one of these breeds.

Peruvian Inca Orcid

Chinese Crested True Hairless

Xoloitzcuintle

Korean Hairless

Poodle (high grooming requirements)

Chihuahua ( Dont shed.)

Bichon Frise (high grooming requirements)

I recomend a Chihuhua. I own one and guess what i have asthma. I wanted a dog for my familt, and so i researched a chihuhua, and found out that they shed, but not as bad as other dogs. And their hair has a very low dander amount to it. So go with a chihuhua. Try to get a SHORT Hair one though. The long hair Chihuhuas are the ones that shed.
