in the elizabethan period, renaissance music was the music of the time (1400-1600). this of course was pre baroque music, the earliest period of music we know much about.

this included composers such as Gabrielli, Birchois etc. Gabrielli is the most well known. lots of antiphonal music was composed in this musical period.
