What is rhyme pattern?

[Edit]

You see rhyme patterns in poetry a lot.  Depending on the form, certain lines will rhyme with each other.  In the simplest rhyme forms, two lines next to each other will rhyme with each other.  Rhyme forms are usually referred to by using letters... so that kind of rhyme would be an AA rhyme.  You will see poems that have ABAB or ABBA rhyme schemes (the first line A rhymes with the second A, line B rhymes with B, etc.), and then there are really, really complex rhyme schemes like a Sestina.  The rhyme pattern for that looks like this: ABCDEF FAEBDC CFDABE ECBFAD DEACFB BDFECA and then AD/BE/CF.   I had my college class write a Sestina together once... it was *crazy* ... but fun. :)

A rhyme pattern is also called a rhyme scheme, and here is an article about rhyme schemes if you would like further information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhyme_scheme
