Something that is AMBIGUOUS has at least two possible interpretations.
An ambiguous statment is one that has more than one possible interpretation. Here's a basic example.
"Did you see the girl with the telescope?"
This question has two clear possible interpretations. This ambiguity arises from the prepositional phrase "with the telescope". This phrase may modify the subject, you, or the object, the girl.
The two possible interpretations are as follows-
"Did you see the girl who is holding the telescope?"
"Did you see the girl by using the telescope?"
