What is a defoliant?

[Edit]
A defoliant is a plant-removing or plant-killing agent. Plants can, in general, be called foliage. "De-planting" is removing plants, physically or by killing them.

Correction - Foliage= Leaves. Defoliants cause the leaves to die and drop, which starves the plant. Agent orange was a defoliant as was arsenic for cotton plants.
