What are the pros and cons of Wiccan religion?

[Edit]

Wiccan Religion - Pros and Cons

Practitioners of true Wicca absolutely DO NOT practice human sacrifice. Saying you read it on the internet is like saying it was written on a wall...it doesn't make true because someone put it there.

I'm not a Wiccan, but this is what I know: Wiccans are lovers of nature and the harmonious balance that exists in nature and can exist within man and between man and his world. Christians seems to have a hard time accepting this pagan religion because Jesus isn't the core of the belief system.

From what I've read (from reputable sources) and experienced, Wiccans are tolerant, accepting people who find beauty and higher meaning in every aspect of the world.

Obviously, one disadvantage of practicing Wicca would be the knee-jerk reaction of those who don't understand the religion but feel they can criticize it anyway.

  • THANK YOU, previous poster. I am a Celtic Wiccan by blood, and you are certainly right, we DO NOT EVER practice ANY KIND of human sacrifice, animal sacrifice. It's few bad-apples, and uneducated ignorant people who give Wiccans a bad name.

We do NOT worship Satan, shape shift, have long-pointy warty noses NOR do we put hexes on someone who makes us angry.

Wicca is a religion, just like Buddhism, Christianity, Atheism, Judaism, etc. It is a personal choice and you don't wake up and say "Today I will be a Wiccan." It is a feeling you have your entire life...like you are, well, an individual. Most Wiccans have doubts of what is written in the Christian bible, yet are not Jewish or Hindu or any other nationality to practice those cultural religions.

Wicca has nothing to do with devil worship or any form of Satanic rituals. Since Wicca is NOT a Christian religion, for us, there is NO Jesus, Satan, etc.

Wiccans do NOT sacrifice goats or cattle, we do not drink animals' blood, pluck crows for their feathers, or insist on keeping black cats around a cauldron...though most Wiccans ARE animal lovers and have many animal friends, just as any other religious person would have.

I happen to be very into Wicca and the beliefs that follow...I also raise NPGA-registered African Pygmy Goats, Scottish Terrier dogs and West Highland White Terrier dogs. I have a few guppy fish, a reptile, a couple dogs, and yes, cats. I do NOT use any of these animals for any kind of rituals. They are my family as much as they are my pets.

So, bottom line...please do NOT be ignorant enough to believe everything you read online. Or if you must, then at least get multiple opinions from a range of websites and individual people.

You can find information on Wicca and Wiccans at the following websites. Please take some time to read them and educate yourself.

Comment from a Christian who regularly fellowships with Pagans

The pros and cons of all religions are basically the same. If your religion gets between you and God or Spirit, it's time to change. If it draws you closer, it's the right one for you.

ANSWER con -

It is 'a way of life'- due to having beliefs and actions intertwined in order to 'work'.

It does take practice and dedication to really get good.

You have to have or develop an ability to believe in more
than coincidences. (although this can also be a pro)

You do not always see results as fast as you want or sometimes at all and this can hamper belief and dedication.

You have to be able to equalize all your emotions no matter what you want why you want it or how much you want it.

You need to try to stay away from revenge and anger related desires and spells.

It is still a religion and has gods, goddesses, rules and need for faith like all religions

You're not accepted by most Christians because your a Wiccian, but even Wiccan's won't except you either until you prove your self to them.

I've also found that your on your own, ask a Wiccan for help, and you'll hear "it's your path and your responsibility to find your own answers." Which I understand, but those who have walked the path before can reach out to a "newbie".

ANSWER

  • Pro - It may be right for you
Con - Lots of people will think you're crazy
Con - Lots of Wiccans you'll meet are only Wiccan in name because they saw some Hollywood fantasy.
