You start with a two year Associate's Degree or 4 year Bachelor of Arts of Bachelor of Science degree. Then get a Master of Arts or a Master of Science Degree. Then a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or a Doctor of Science (Sci.D) which is the same rank.

Those are the academic rankings. The other degrees you emtioned are for other purposes. An MBA or Master's in Business Administration is the same as any other Master's level degree in that you need a Bachelor's degree first, but it is entirely business focused. An MD is a Doctor of Medicine which is at least an 8-year committment. A DO is either a DOctor of Obstetrics, a Doctor of Opthalmology, or a Doctor of Osteopathy. All the DOs need the same basic training as an MD before they specialize. Their is also a Doctor of Laws (an LLD) or a Juris Doctor (JD)for attorneys, which is awarded 3 years after a Bachelor's degree.
