Was King David Jewish? |
[Edit] |
Answer
Yes, David was a Jew, definitely. The first Jews lived in Israel, and for 500 years, Jewish Kings ruled the land.
Futhermore, both the Old and New Testaments have the genealogy line of King David, going right back to Abraham found in 1 Chronicles 2 and Matthew 1.
Though King David was Jewish, he did have one ancestor from a foreign land only four geneations before he lived. His great grandmother Ruth was from the land of Moab. She married Boaz, who was a Jew.
King Davd is probably the most famous Jew of the Old Testament (Abraham was not Jewish, but he was Hebrew). David who is the only man mentioned to be "a man after God's own heart" is the most mentioned name in the Bible (1085 times!).
