If your doctor advised you to clean your foreskin and wash your penis but you find it difficult to open your foreskin how can you reduce this difficulty? |
[Edit] |
This isn't uncommon. If your foreskin is too tight to be pulled back, you can gently stretch it for 15 or 30 minutes per day using a topical corticosteroid cream. Betamethasone works the best and is available by prescription. If you're unable to get betamethasone, you can use hydrocortisone 1.0% cream, which is available over the counter although it does not work as well as betamethasone. Simply apply the cream and stretch the opening of the foreskin gently for 15 to 30 minutes per day. This will take several weeks or even months to complete, but most men find this solution to be preferable to circumcision. When stretching use some force, but if there is any pain, bleeding, or small tearing you're stretching too hard. This should be a gradual process, and it will usually take a couple months to achieve complete results. When using betamethasone cream plus stretching, this is successful in about 90% of cases.
