omg! When I lived in California for 6 years .. I drove my escort . I drove my astro van.. i drove some kinda of honda and a toyota something or other.. this was 10 years ago.. But anyhow... I insured my car and had it registered etc. with my Mom and Dad's address in Michigan where i was origionally from. I was once pulled over in Oakland Ca. Comming back from a concert in San Francisco.. I was pulled over for being stupid or something.. The officer looked at me and asked what i was doing etc.. He also asked if I planned to stay in California for a while. Kinda taken back by the question i said i was not sure. He replied because if you arent going to come back to California you dont have to pay the ticket.. But if you ever come back then your gonna have a suspened liscence. But we can't make you pay the ticket because you aren't from our state. I never payed the ticket Needless to say the ticket is payed.. But yes you can have insurance from another state.. especially when your a student.. Because you aren't really considered a resident.. *note* if you plan on voting in elections you must get an absentee ballot from your home town. I believe you can do this at the secretay of state or the Library .Aparently some insurance companies give you a discount if you get good grades.. My wife is getting great grades and has gotten 2 or 3 discounts on her payments.
