If you couldn't get hurt, then dirt biking wouldn't be fun anymore.

It is safe when a child races within his ability with proper training from a qualified individual. Racing in a competitive class as a novice is where I have seen most kids get hurt due to lack of experience and preparation.
Too often a parent buys a 12 year old an 85cc bike and puts him in competition after only a few practices. That is scary.
