Well music is one of the most influential aspects on everybodys lives not just young people. As far as history goes look at periods such as the punk movement... Music driven anti-establishment protests etc.
Today its much the same thing although students and young people are not the protesting type more the silent voice of various anti-establishment, anti - authority, anti - religion.
May I bring to the floor music driven fashion culture.... Indie kids, scene kids, EMO kids, goths etc...
Its not just a taste in music to many its a way of life "we where black on the outside cause thats how we feel on the inside".
Music to many teenagers has always been the sympathetic ear that dosnt answer back. Now that sounds stupid but its true. Music has different interpretations user to user, therefore depending on what might be happening in your life there will be a song to accompany it and share feelings of sympathy or make an individual feel better.
