How do you respond to a lawsuit for bills you have been making payments on?

[Edit]

Answer

The response has to be to the summons itself. Meaning the party involved needs to answer the summons to claim exempted property to keep creditors from attaching said property with a writ of judgment. If the debtor is a homeowner they need to be certain the procedure for using the homestead exemptiont that protects the property is valid. The payment issue can be submitted to the presiding judge to prove the person has been acting in good faith concerning repayment.
