How do you get a cat to stop going to the bathroom in your flower bed?

It's pretty much impossible, I'd guess. Cats are stubborn and flower beds make great toilets for them. But if you catch it all the time and shoo it away, that may eventually discourage it. Or if you put an area near the flower bed with softer dirt and sand, it may go there and not all over in the flower bed. When you do see it in the flower bed, pick it up and move it to the area that is "OK" to go. It will probably get the hint. Also, maybe cover the flower bed in bark dust or chips. It will make it harder to dig in for the cat and may decide not to go there anymore. You may be able to find something at a pet store to put in or around your flower bed to keep cats out. I don't know what it would be called or if there is such a thing, but it may be worth asking around to keep the cat out.

Orange Peels Save those citrus peels and sprinkle them around shrubs and plants. Cats hate the scent of citrus as much as vinegar. To make the peels go further, grind them in a blender to release the citrus oils and mix with water.

Moth Balls Another scent deterrent, but please, place them inside a covered can with a few holes poked in it.

They can be toxic if ingested, and you just want to discourage kitty visitors, not harm them

You can also mulch your flower beds deeply in pine needles-attractive, great for the plants and soil, and cats don't like them as they prick their feet. You can also sprinkle mothballs in the beds as a scent deterrent that they won't like. Moth balls are cheap, but you'll have to keep doing it-cats are persistent. If the beds aren't too big, try laying chicken wire over the ground, the cats can't dig through it and this can deter them. It did work for me.

Have you tried "canned air", the stuff you clean your computer keyboard with? Now, I'm not suggesting you spray too much canned air, just a quick swish to freak him out a little, and never use the canned air out of anger (or any other training method for that matter). However, be considerate of the fact that the cat may be scared out of your yard altogether. I personally don't see the harm done in a cat peeing and pooping in your flowers. At least he's not doing it in your carpet; the flowers probably like it.

ANSWER THAT WORKS:

Use either white or apple cider vinegar and put it into a spray bottle and spray the perimeter and the rows. Since cats and dogs have a hyper sensitive sense of small they wont tolerate it. Repeat after rains as neccessary. This is the most humane way to discourage cats from any kind of unwanted behavior.
