How do you find the owner and address of a car if you just have the license plate number? |
[Edit] |
Finding the Owner
Unless you are in law enforcement, it would be very difficult to track someone down that way. Otherwise anybody could find anyone who cut them off in traffic or for any other reason. License plate numbers aren't meant for the general public to use. So, if you have a true reason to contact this person (insurance, hit and run, etc.) contact your local police department.
Here is some more advice from others:
- If you are in Canada you get the plate and or VIN# (located on the dash at the windshield infront of the driver). Take these number to the Ministry of Transportation and pay $25 for the used buyers guide. That willgive you the current and all past owners. NOTE if you obtain this for lawful reasons you are fine. If you have ill intentions then you are looking at Criminal Harrassment under the Stalking legislation and that means a nice stay in the gray bar inn. BE RESPONSIBLE.
- Go buy it from the DMV. It's a public record.
Answer
You should,(unless you're a stalker) notify Police or leave a note under the wiper of the car letting them know of the problem.
