How can you e-mail a veterinarian?

[Edit]

Answer

Most veterinarians don't email because they are too busy, but you could call a vets office and ask if you could email important info or if they have a fax (they usually would have a fax line.) Phone is the best way to contact them unless they want more history on your pet.

You email them with your email

If you are looking for online veterinary consultations there are two types:

  • One is a free advice or FAQ list. These help in getting a generalized idea of problems. They are usually addressed, if by email, by a person knowledgeable in routine pet problems but as stated above because of the time & cost factor most likely not a veterinarian. Some free advice sites may choose 1 or more cases a week and answer them, wait til another pet owner answers the question or reference a quick standard answer.
  • Two a paid online consultation which is basically a medical second opinion. In lieu of a physical exam the veterinarian, in this case, usually takes in account, case history, lab work, behavior change, diet and more. Most will then continue to ask & answer follow up questions for a certain time period or til the case conclusion. Your answer is specific and usually more indepth.

Precaution must be used to note that an online consultation should never be used in place of an actual attending veterinarian as lab work , physical exams and doctor's personal observations are a key part in diagnosis. But online consultations can help with options and possiblities that sometimes elude even the best veterinarian. Second opinions are a valuable resource for the medical community. If you watch "House" rarely is anything in medicine ,whether human or animal, clear cut.
