Does pap smear show STDs? |
[Edit] |
Answer
A PAP smear or PAP test is a test for cancer (cervical cancer), not for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
The main risk factors for this type of cancer are related to sexual practices. Sexually transmitted diseases may make your cells more likely to undergo changes that can lead to cancer. One STD, "HPV," is the virus that can cause genital warts. There seems to be a close relation between getting this STD, and a higher risk of getting cervical cancer.
