My 93 villager had a similar problem. Gas smell only when cold. Turns out it was the fuel line connection to the fuel rail, but it only leaked when the motor was running and the fuel line hose was flexing some from engine movement. Start the engine and move the throttle from under the hood and look for leaks, or, manually move the fuel lines a bit with the engine running. I had to double up on the hose clamps to the connection to stop my leak.
