Many mature & Creative people have developed their own style and only add things that work with this style.
Also, with the advent of the internet, many more people work at home, and no longer need to spend the time or money 'keeping up'.
Sometimes young people (i.e. living at home and/or without jobs) are forbidden by their parents to follow fashion, either on principle or for financial reasons.
Even older people can't always afford to shop several times a year to keep up with fashion trends for every piece of clothing and accessory, since that is what fashion is about: constant change. what was "in" this season is "out" next season. Not everyone is blessed with unlimited funds, generous parents, grandparents and other family members, or large inheritances that they care to spend on fleeting fads.
You will also see that as you get older and (hopefully) more mature, you will care less and less what other people think of you and your choices, whether the choices affect your clothes, the car you buy, the way you decorate your digs, etc.
You will have (again, hopefully) developed your OWN sense of style, what suits you and what doesn't. You will also (hopefully) have a job and therefore developed something of a budget; best to live UNDER your means, if not exactly within it. You can only spend money once, so it might be a choice between those hot Prada sunglasses or...the rent. Later, it might be a choice between a week in the Caribbean or...day care for the baby. Still later, it might be a choice between that zippy BMW Z4, or...paying your kid's college tuition.
Sooo....that being said, understand that things change as you age, and "old people" (define "old") already have closets full of clothes that they either don't care or can't afford to replace (living on fixed Social Security income), and they don't care what you or anyone else thinks. If the clothes fit and look good (i.e. are in good condition), it's not like they're out clubbing or going to school and being picked apart by all their snotty so-called friends. So they are cool with that. And guess what? If you live long enough, YOU WILL BE TOO. It's a real relief!! There ARE advantages to getting older!!
And the people who are "too forgetful" to buy fashionable clothes are probably the same people who are too forgetful zip their fly.
Older people have physical changes .
Most new fashion is geared toward teen to 50's age groups.Often, garments designed for young bodies may not look attractive on an elderly body.
I think old people don't follow fashion because they are from different generations. When they were into fashion, they were still wearing the 'style' back then. Now it isn't the popular style, butthey are ok with what they have.
